Booey Gibbanel or Zen Deschbard?

The comments over on the Stereogum post about the pending nuptials of Ben Gibbard (DCFC) and Zooey Deschanel (She & Him, Almost Famous, and, most importantly, Elf) have made me double over with silent laughter about ten times. Well played, Stereogum commenters. It’s worth a post just to note the guy wondering what their celebrity couple name will be (“Booey Gibbanel or Zen Deschbard? I like Zen Deschbard. Or maybe Booey Deschbard.”)

Inciting the most indignation is the fact that people didn’t know they were dating (I know, right?! I thought we were BFFs). I generally don’t care about romances of famous people, but I have to admit being pleased in my heart when I heard this announcement because I totally called it back in August when they both appeared at that awesome music supergroup event at the Democratic National Convention event in Denver:

unconventional-138

Female intuition INTACT!

And then they went and covered the Everly Brothers together all sweet-like, and I was like, CLEARLY.

So yeah. Sorry, heartbroken guys.

[…and whoa I am just noticed I’m totally at the end of the crowd panorama in that video. Carry on.]

  • how about we just call them “the cutest indie couple that ever lived”? yeah, I think people would know immediately whom we were referencing…

  • Once Ben cuts his hair, then we can them “the cutest indie couple that ever lived.”

  • Can’t leave out The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy – she was cuter than cute in this movie as Tricia McMillan/Trillian, and even pulled off the power of cuteness in a Charles Darwin costume with the fake beard! If you haven’t seen this yet don’t hesitate – goes up some notches from the BBC version and gives some much deserved respect to the genius of Douglas Adams (the writer of the Hitchhiker’s series, a trilogy in 5 parts for the young ones out there). And of course there’s Zooey you know, in space!!!

  • Don’t forget about her stint in Weeds either. She was hilariously crazy on that show.

  • My heart broke too a bit since Zooey is super cute. And then again a second time because Ben Gibbard looks like he stopped eating years ago. I miss the schlubby Ben.

  • Yeah, I was bummed and outraged as well…. especially since i found her first! did he see mumford years ago by mistake and forever love fell in love with the movie and its supporting cast? i think not. and…. I to could care less about celebrity couples.. the fact that this shit makes news is just annoying. I’d rather hear about when their gonna put out an album as a married couple

"I love the relationship that anyone has with music: because there's something in us that is beyond the reach of words, something that eludes and defies our best attempts to spit it out. It's the best part of us, probably, the richest and strangest part..."

"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel."

Mp3s are for sampling purposes, kinda like when they give you the cheese cube at Costco, knowing that you'll often go home with having bought the whole 7 lb. spiced Brie log. They are left up for a limited time. If you LIKE the music, go and support these artists, buy their schwag, go to their concerts, purchase their CDs/records and tell all your friends. Rock on.
