Okay, so who wants to go to New Orleans for the Voodoo Music Experience?

Me! I want to go explore New Orleans and see some bands like R.E.M., Nine Inch Nails, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Old 97s, Thievery Corporation, Mars Volta, Ghostland Observatory, and Sharon Jones with her sassy Dap Kings.

The Voodoo Music Experience takes over New Orleans on October 24-25-26th. Fuel/Friends has a pair of tickets to the festival to give to one of you guys because we love you. Please note, transportation no es includio. So get yourself to N’awlins and I’ll help you rock. Leave me a comment and tell me something interesting (oh, and how to contact you) and we’ll do a random drawing next Monday morning.

Don’t know how you do the voodoo that you do, as some wise sage once said.

PS On the contest tip: Two of you still need to claim your Brian Wilson prizes (kouzie and Jamoo, I’m talkin to you).

  • Headed down there last year for Voodoo, and it was a blast. The only problem was dragging yourself out of bed every day after the massive Hurricane-induced hangovers!

  • Canal Street, once the widest street in the world, was named for a canal that was planed for, but never built, in the median.

I have always wanted to walk on what was once the widest street in the world.

  • I want to take my girlfriend to New Orleans. I have no other compelling reason to tell you. I’d like to have sex in New Orleans.

  • nice. I’ll play! I renamed October “rock”tober, simply b/c of all the shows I’m going to see – 15 in all. This would just be the icing on the cake! Plus, I’ve never been to NO and Drew Brees and I both lived in West Lafayette at one point in our lives! :)

  • I was supposed to go to New Orleans for spring break with some friends my junior year in college (original, I know). At the last minute I had to work, so they took my car and went without me. So my car’s been to New Orleans, but I’m still waiting.

  • I have no idea how I’ll get there, or how I’ll afford it, but I really, really would love to go! I’m living on my measly student loans, student teaching and taking graduate courses all at the same time. I need a vacation more than you’ll ever know! Plus, my girlfriend and I decided to go our separate ways after five years, so I’ve gotta get the hell out of town and hear some great tunes. And on one last note, I haven’t been to a music festival since Lollapalooza ’94 @ Shoreline in Mountain View, CA. Many, many thanks! Feel free to email me @ elistunes@aol.com when you pick me as the winner!

  • Ernie K-Doe, The Master of the Universe and proud New Orleanian died in 2001, but he lives on at “Mother In Law Lounge” where his widow Antoinette has commissioned his likeness in wax statue form (http://www.k-doe.com/photo.shtml?Mvc-895s).

Don’t know if that does it or not, but if that doesn’t work (and I can’t bribe my way into those tickets) there’s a spot on my couch here in New Orleans for whoever wins.

  • So I guess this probly won’t qualify as the coolest reason that anyone has given but I want to ask my girlfriend to marry me and the plan has always been to do it in New Orleans (it’s pretty much her favorite place and certainly my favorite place in the world) but I haven’t had a really good reason to justify to her why we should go on a vaca since we don’t exactly have the money at the moment. A couple of free tickets to Voodo Fest would keep me from having to use the “cause i wanna ask you to marry me” excuse i was planning on using.

  • Hey, you forgot that Grace Potter and the Nocturnals will be there to.

I would like to win the ticksts so that I can finance my new favorite band “Credit Default Swap” and their new hit song “I Am A Calculation Agent”.

Plus, I was there back in the day, and I don’t really remember it. I need to rectify that.

  • i love music and i love boobs. can i go to new orleans? i’ll give you the other ticket!

    Jake — October 8, 2008 @ 3:16 pm

  • Damn it, Thomas! OK, I officially take myself out of the running (not that I would’ve won anyway). If you seriously wind up making it to New Orleans and want to know some cool/romantic places where you could pop the question, e-mail me chuck.alexander@gmail.com. Maybe I could help a brother out or something.

    Chuck — October 8, 2008 @ 5:40 pm

  • I’ve never been to New Orleans but I played bass on a song my friend recorded with a transvestite who used to live there.

I’ve bought Grace four times because I kept wearing out the cd.

That is my favorite fact from the random fact drawer. ;)

  • Did you know that one of the guys on those Sonic commercials is a writer for The Colbert Report?

Also, I’m in medical school and living off of student loans, so I can’t afford anything – being able to drive a couple hours to see a music festival would be nice. :) Also, I’m seriously concert-deprived – I haven’t been able to go to one since Josh Ritter in May (most amazing night of my life, but it’s still been WAY too long.) And I live two hours away from New Orleans and have never been there.

    Okay, I’ll stop.

  • Hi Heather: My girlfriend is from New Orleans (she lives in ATlanta now) I’d love to take her home again for the festival. If I am so lucky (and if the drawing hasn’t already taken place…)

Thanks for all that you do.

  • The winner has been picked (randomly)! Congratulations, Chuck! I was pulling for the guy who wanted to ask his girl to marry him – but Chuck’ll do :)

"I love the relationship that anyone has with music: because there's something in us that is beyond the reach of words, something that eludes and defies our best attempts to spit it out. It's the best part of us, probably, the richest and strangest part..."
—Nick Hornby, Songbook
"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel."
—Hunter S. Thompson

Mp3s are for sampling purposes, kinda like when they give you the cheese cube at Costco, knowing that you'll often go home with having bought the whole 7 lb. spiced Brie log. They are left up for a limited time. If you LIKE the music, go and support these artists, buy their schwag, go to their concerts, purchase their CDs/records and tell all your friends. Rock on.
