Something frustrating this way comes

Sorry for the inconvenience, all the music hosted on my server is currently unavailable. I am in the process of being shaken down by The Man for a track that I cross-posted recently that was offered as a legal download on a certain band’s website through a pop-up for the committed fans. Apparently no one told the RIAA this and they’re going after the little guy (or little gal, as it may be).

My tech supporter Paul told me last night through the customer service line that my server should be back up in “12-24 hours.” Let’s hope we can get this straightened out soon.

In happier news, I also just crossed the 2 millionth hit mark last night. A sincere and heartfelt thanks to all of you for reading what I have to say, and for being such kind and wonderful folks.

  • Sorry to hear that. Doesn’t the RIAA just make you YEARN to be one of their loyal customers? *ugh*

Hope everything gets sorted out really soon!

  • Heather -

Congratulations on hitting the 2 million mark!

What a worthless hassle! Music fans enjoy your site because you introduce advanced or new content. This inspires listeners to purchase music! No wonder CD sales are so POOR. I can’t imagine the reason RIAA?

  • Stand by, we’re busy trying to kill the music industry. Your patience is appreciated in this matter.

  • Please don’t get discouraged by the RIAA’s incredible short-sightedness. You’ve got a great site, and you provide a great service for the bands whose MP3s you make available. Thanks to your site (and a few select others like it) I’ve bought three albums in the last few weeks from bands I’d never have heard of if it weren’t for the free MP3s they provided, and you introduced me to.

The music industry will survive the MP3 era BECAUSE of sites like this, not in spite of them. Hope you’re back up soon!

  • Stupid RIAA doesn’t think they have any obligation to their customers, they think we’re all slaves! Interesting post about morals and pricing here:

  • Dude, Counting Crows needs to stop acting like they’re some big time hot shot band when they’re bordering dangerously on has-beens. I have loved them for a long time but they can’t sell out their latest tour of MINOR LEAGUE BALLPARKS, they haven’t released anything truly amazing in years, and then they totally screw their real fans (like you) up the wazoo when you try and generate a little much-needed buzz for them.

How myopic can they BE? I am so sorry that this happened to you for this song, of all things. Couldn’t they have just emailed you to ask you to take down the file? How do they even have the RIGHT to take down your whole server anyways.

  • heather,

sorry to hear about the hassle. The RIAA is fighting a losing battle, and I for one will be elated to see them shrivel and die. Your site is fantastic, and I am glad to be a part of those 2 million hits. Congratulations on the acheivement and good luck with the RIAA. Don’t let the bastards drag you down.

  • Sorry that you’re dealing with this . . . this is half the reason rbally is on hiatus (the other half is another story).

Record companies suck, plain and simple . . .

    Anyway, keep on, keep on . . . .

  • No, Heather, YOU are awesome! Thanks so much for everything you do and for putting up with this recent bullcaca. Fight the power!

  • I’ve only been visiting your site for the past couple months or so, but now I don’t know what I did w/o it before, and the downloadable content is definitely a major part of it (the recent Stripes and PJ were esp. awesome). This is one of the best music sites I read, so congrats on 2 million and its well-deserved. I really appreciate what an honest fan you are, as opposed to the snarkiness found so many other places.
Thanks for everything so far, and here’s to another 2 million!

  • Just recently returned from vaca in San Fran to my home in So Cal. Missed your site while I was gone – congrats on the 2M’r, your mp3 site is by far and above the very best in existence today. The RIAA should be PAYING YOU for all the hard work and promotion instead of harassing. What I love the most is when the PR dept doesn’t communicate with the legal dept. Oh wait, that happens all the time. Congrats again Heather!

Mp3s are for sampling purposes, kinda like when they give you the cheese cube at Costco, knowing that you'll often go home with having bought the whole 7 lb. spiced Brie log. They are left up for a limited time. If you LIKE the music, go and support these artists, buy their schwag, go to their concerts, purchase their CDs/records and tell all your friends. Rock on.
