Holding in my hands…

My Pearl Jam fanclub single for 2006 finally arrived in the mail just now, and I have to say that I literally jumped up and clicked my heels together in joy on the walk back inside. Because I am a dork.

I think the cover art is some of the best yet and made me get a little flutter somewhere in my gut. As previously mentioned, the tunes this year are the Who cover “Love Reign O’er Me” (which gives me even more chills with the pure vinyl audio sound) and the Neil Young cover “Rocking In The Free World,” with U2 from Melbourne last year.

Love Reign O’er Me – Pearl Jam
Rockin’ In The Free World (Neil Young cover) – Pearl Jam w/ U2

This gives me pause to also mention two Pearl-Jam-related items I’ve been sitting on:
** Vedder will induct R.E.M. into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame on March 12 (link)

** Ed is the ultimate Cubs fanboy (more pics here). Cara saw these and affectionately referred to Vedder as “tiny mofo.” I think she means that as a term of endearment.

  • Anon, you should call or email the fanclub. I have a really low # which means maybe they send them out in that order? Yours still may be coming, or they may be willing to sell back singles, I had to buy one back single that I lost and I think they charged me $3.

  • I can’t figure out the link to download on Army Reserve; does one have to join this Megaupload? I’m mainly curious what the songs on this year’s single are?

The Cubs pictures are priceless. Thank you.

Long time reader here, Heather. Never posted. But we share an unabashed love for the Jam. Thanks for what you do.

  • If you go to the PJ Collectors website (http://www.pjcollectors.com/detail.asp?id=1035)they have a higher res image of the entire album’s artwork including the back and vinyl.

Justin you don’t need to join Megaupload. Just follow the links, type in the three letter code, wait 45 seconds and then download it. (Still don’t know why they make you wait 45 seconds, but at least they have a countdown clock)

  • Bah, still no single for Billy. Not sure about the fan# order, I’m 308### (sad huh? I came to the party late) but my co-worker is 375### and lives in NYC too and he got his on Saturday. I’ll be jealous of the sub-5k number, but console myself with the memories of seeing the Letterman-post show in May. Still smiling. Maybe EV will stop by and see Dave when he’s in town next week?

  • the use of mofo is meant to be non-abusive, and in fact complimentary. i.e. – you are so bad ass, nothing can touch you, even if you appear to be tiny, you are in reality truly very, very big.

    dig?

    ;)

  • For the record – these songs are great. Ed’s wailing on Reign is fantastic, and the kids sound great on RITFW. It’s well rehearsed and well performed by Ed and Bono. Thanks Heather!

"I love the relationship that anyone has with music: because there's something in us that is beyond the reach of words, something that eludes and defies our best attempts to spit it out. It's the best part of us, probably, the richest and strangest part..."
—Nick Hornby, Songbook
"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel."
—Hunter S. Thompson

Mp3s are for sampling purposes, kinda like when they give you the cheese cube at Costco, knowing that you'll often go home with having bought the whole 7 lb. spiced Brie log. They are left up for a limited time. If you LIKE the music, go and support these artists, buy their schwag, go to their concerts, purchase their CDs/records and tell all your friends. Rock on.
