I haven't lived anywhere too exotic or different - just the normal routine of hometown, college, a post-college escape (Washington DC) and then back home again. That would be Little Rock, Arkansas - also where Ben Nichols is from. I'm proud to call it my home - great city, thriving culture/art/music scene with just downright good people. We are so proud of Ben and Lucero and other local bands making it: such as American Princes, Moving Front, etc.

Ben mentions my favorite dive bar (which is also his favorite) - Whitewater Tavern - in 'Darken My Door': "Whitewater Tavern nights/old songs and cheap red wine." You'd love this place, Heather. Small, run-down, cheap and filled with true music lovers. Lucero has plays here often and Ben does some solo sets as well. They're more known for their cheap beer (particularly PBR) but I'm a fan of the red wine. The first time I went I ordered wine and they gave it to me in a stem glass which was just wrong. So now I request red wine in a plastic beer cup. It's just that kind of awesome. If you're ever in central Arkansas you will have to come by WWT.

I used to live in a cement floored house with a tin roof. It was in a small village in Cameroon while I was a Peace Corps Volunteer. There was no running water, so I had to "shower" with water heated on my stove and put in a bucket. It also meant I had to use an outhouse. Thankfully, there was electricity so I was able to listen to cassettes that my sisters sent me (REM, Pearl Jam, OutKast etc.). One of the most memorable things that happened there was when my neighbor's kids were over (all < 5 years old) and I threw in Radiohead's Kid A. The youngest just stared at the stereo during the opening notes and then just busted out dancing. Once I started laughing the rest of the kids joined in and I had a toddler dance party in my living room.
