If you’ve ever wondered what pure, unfettered joy looks like….

…it’s the look on Brian Fallon‘s face this weekend as he sings his song of youth and music into a microphone with Bruce Springsteen.

The ’59 Sound, live at Glastonbury (June 27, 2009) – The Gaslight Anthem with Bruce Springsteen

  • My friend was at Hyde Park Calling in Monday, where the same thing happened… so jealous!

Heather, your mission should you choose to accept it is to track down the Joe Strummer cover Bruce opened his set with that night. My attempts have been fruitless so far and you’re usually better than me at such things! xx

  • This is why Bruce is the Boss. Most artists are so set in their ways that they shun the new artists. Bruce gets out there plays rhythm guitar for a solid up & coming band & turns a performance into the stuff of legend. Brilliant. Heather, you’re amazing. I will never tire of the music you bring into my life & I’m better for having read this blog. Shit you’re one of the reasons I decided to start my own. Thanks again!

  • The cool thing is that, according to The Gaslight Anthem website, Bruce ASKED THEM if he could join them on stage.

  • Heather, I was at Glastonbury last weekend, and saw Hockey followed by The Gaslight Anthem in a small tent, followed by Passion Pit after them. Hockey were fantastic. When Bruce came on for the 59 sound the crowd went crazy and the tent which was already 3/4 full was overflowing. I love how Bruce kept singing the wrong lyrics in the second half of the chorus but it was all so cool it didn’t matter. Springsteen that night was also fantastic, but Neil Young was amazing. You should defintely try and get to Glastonbury next year if you can. It’s the 40th anniversairy of the greatest festival in the world and you would be in heaven.

  • What a thrill! Bruce has always seemed like a class act – like the famous Copenhagen street performance when he was walking by, heard a busker playing and joined in for a mini-set:

Also check out his support of his dying friend, Warren Zevon, coming in to sing harmony and play on “Disorder In The House” from Warren’s final album, The Wind:

VH-1 did a fantastic, moving documentary with Warren as he hurried to complete The Wind, following his diagnosis.

"I love the relationship that anyone has with music: because there's something in us that is beyond the reach of words, something that eludes and defies our best attempts to spit it out. It's the best part of us, probably, the richest and strangest part..."

"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel."

Mp3s are for sampling purposes, kinda like when they give you the cheese cube at Costco, knowing that you'll often go home with having bought the whole 7 lb. spiced Brie log. They are left up for a limited time. If you LIKE the music, go and support these artists, buy their schwag, go to their concerts, purchase their CDs/records and tell all your friends. Rock on.
