Thanks for this. Just saw the guys Friday night at the Electric Factory in Philly. Great show, great venue.

For my taste, this is one of the best music blogs I've come across recently.

I saw that Philly show too - the band was really into it, but the mix was poor. Hard to hear all the cool stuff they were doing and that they were clearly grooving on.

This song was great, but the way they reinvent their earlier stuff is really inspirational. 'Start A War' was pretty epic, as was 'Mistaken For Strangers'.

If you like this band or are on the fence, seeing them live would be the difference maker. Go.

The National show in Philly last night was nothing short of amazing. while the crowd didn't seem very into it (which i really couldn't understand), the boys put on a great show. I'm now convinced that I like them better live than recorded... something about the way it sends shivers down my spine!!!!!

The National seems to be everywhere recently, or maybe I'm just hangin' out in all the right places...
I too read the lyrics at alan's blog, and I think that as usual Berninger can write (and sing) a haunted song like no one can, and that he has a thing for repeating lines. Than again, were going for hauntedness here, so it works.

Oh, and as this is my first comment here, I'm inclined to say 'hi', and tell you I started following your blog recently, and I'm enjoying every moment of it (you like good music).

hrmm... interesting. I've this song titled as a "Karamazov" from a Feb 2009 Carnegie Hall performance, but Sixeyes has it tagged as "The Runaway"

I can see why it'd be titled as "The Runaway" but I'm hoping this thing is inspired by Dostoevsky, sadly I haven't read that book in ages and I haven't really taken a good looksee at the entirety of the lyrics so I can confirm or theorize diddly squat credibly.

gosh its pretty though.
