If you ever change your mind about leaving Jim James behind…

My Morning Jacket covered Sam Cooke’s masterpiece “Bring It On Home To Me,” New Years Eve 2008 at Madison Square Garden.

We have a bit of an ongoing fascination with cover versions of this song ’round these parts.

Bring It On Home To Me (Sam Cooke cover) – My Morning Jacket

The entire NYE show was a scorcher.

  • Hi Heather,
Did you hear that Will Johnson (the man, the myth, the legend) from Centromatic played on Golden. Splendid stuff!

We have MMJ supporting Neil Young here next week which has me very excited.

  • NYE with MMJ was one of, if not THE, best shows of my entire life. From rocking their own stuff, to the kick ass covers, it was an amazing time for all around. I get goose bumps every time I listen to the crowd singing with Jim at the beginning of One Big Holiday on the tape. Can’t wait to see them again!

  • The live version of this tune by Cooke at the Harlem Square Club is probably the best live song I’ve ever heard. My hair stands on end when I hear it.

Ever see Michael Mann’s Ali? The opening used that version quite well.

"I love the relationship that anyone has with music: because there's something in us that is beyond the reach of words, something that eludes and defies our best attempts to spit it out. It's the best part of us, probably, the richest and strangest part..."

"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel."

Mp3s are for sampling purposes, kinda like when they give you the cheese cube at Costco, knowing that you'll often go home with having bought the whole 7 lb. spiced Brie log. They are left up for a limited time. If you LIKE the music, go and support these artists, buy their schwag, go to their concerts, purchase their CDs/records and tell all your friends. Rock on.
