  thanks for posting the song. Not sure if you heard, but Charlie and Dave B are taking a break from the band this month. I think because their respective wifes are expecting. The Keyboard player who is subbing in has recently played with Ryan Adams.

  Hi Heather – I am a longtime fan of the blog. In the above video (from 3:10-5:20) Adam discusses a concert the Counting Crows played with an orchestra a while back, and from 4:55-5:20 he mentions that the version of August and Everything After (the song) from that concert was what he viewed as the "quintessential" version of that song; he then said that one day they will make a recording (unclear live or studio) of that version and it will finally be officially released. Very exciting!

  this is an amazing track that shouldn’t only be released on a out of print single. maybe, yanno, the re-release deluxe edition of the album? you’d think they’d include the title track… if said title track existed in their catalogue. so very silly.

  Also, i was really excited to see the Crows for the first time ever earlier this year.. on the Maroon 5/Counting Crows tour… and was sorely disappointed witht the selection of songs they’d chosen for their unusually short set. It was somewhat disheartening. but, I know if it was just their show they would have played longer. also they played a big star cover.. which kinda made the night a bit better.

  Thanks for posting this. One question: why do concert-goers now think that quiet moments at a show are perfect opportunities for screaming? I’m giving away my age here, but I can say from experience that it weren’t always so.

  no kidding. this was the first CD i ever owned, and i knew every beat of that album, and i remember reading the lyrics on the front and thinking, oh, its a song i dont know. duh, shoulda known there was a song! thanks for posting this– thought i was a true crows fan, but now i learn its not so.

  There’s a live boot of “Kid Things” (the hidden track on This Desert Life) that has been doin’ it for me for eight years.

  Wow!!

  I have been a huge CC fan since the first time I heard “Round Here” and have probably 3 discs worth of rarities and covers, but I have never heard this before. I knew the song existed, but I was pretty sure that I read somewhere that Adam said he would never play it.

  Thank You. Ive always wanted to hear this song. Where and when was this recording done? I'm sorry you missed them. I saw them in St. Louis on the 27th with my daughters (5 & 8 years old). Their 1st concert and they loved it. Again thanks for your blog. Ive discovered a lot of new music thanks to your hard work.
