It's all very lovely, but I'm having trouble taking the guy seriously because all I can think of is Larry Appleton.

(That piece is bona fide gorgeous, though.)

I simply have to say how uch I enjoy your blog--and the samples. I would probably never sample these bands--or hear of them as the mainstream media disdains them--if not for your site.
Thanks.

Another excellent post, but one important point left out:

How exactly does one get a job as a senior music reference specialist? More importantly, can I do it without a college degree if I submit that I am otherwise qualified for the job?
(kidding, of course)

==TJ==

Wow! Great post. I'm delighted you got to meet and hear Larry. I know him slightly; we in DC are very proud to have him walking among us. His Sunday night radio show on WPFW is excellent; perhaps you can listen to it online at wpfw.com.

I love that Monk/Coltrane record. And it is such a cool story. A sound guy I used to work with told me that he received early digital files from the album just after it was discovered.

A Beautiful post, Heather -- well written, well framed -- and a beautiful story. I spent a few hours in the Museum of TV and Radio once listening to rare old TV specials (Joni Mitchell! James Taylor! Johnny Cash!), but the behind-the-scenes potential there seems to pale next to this.

Also, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to know: how do you sign up to be a music archivist and preservationist for the national archives? If that guy ever needs an expert in folk music, I'm totally on a plane to DC.
