Hear the bells ringing / They’re singing

Easter is not Easter for me without hearing this song.

When I was a kid, every single Easter without fail, my parents would cue up the record player, lower the needle, and Easter would begin. Objectively speaking, it’s a live performance of a hippie Christian tune (and quite celebratory; always makes me feel happy inside) but for me it’s also one of those tunes that I have no objectivity in listening to anymore because of all the memories wrapped up in 3 minutes.

The Easter Song – 2nd Chapter Of Acts

My Easter eggs hidden throughout the house would always be half pink/half purple; my older sister would get pink/yellow, and my brother blue/green. It was the exact same every year as we embarked on our sugar-high quest and gnawed the ears off our chocolate bunnies.

Sugar High – Coyote Shivers (Empire Records soundtrack)

And as for the winning album cover art that goes with that first tune, check this out.

Wait for it, waaaaaaait….

I think that guy almost belongs photoshopped into this post.

  • Heard this band & Phil Keaggy many, many times back in the 70′s and even into the early 80′s. Christian rock music was rock and real back then…

  • When I woke up today, after I realized it was Easter (because let’s face it, as an adult, you don’t wake up all excited about what the Easter Bunny may have left you), I had this song in my head ALL DAY. Thank you for allowing it to now leave my brain. Now, where are my half pink/half yellow easter eggs? : )

  • Why do Christians have such long faces?

  • Who actually sings the female vocals on Sugar High (is it Renee Zelwegger (sp?))?

  • Why? Because if anybody needs to be rediscovered or resurrected – (a good idea for a post?) its Roddy Frame currently writing some of the most beautiful songs in the world.Check these out if you are unsure – the man should worshipped!

Your Smile Has Stopped The Hands Of Time
Words and music by Roddy Frame

Appears on Japanese 13-track versions of “Surf” LP.
The skeletal limbs of the trees, daring the girls to compete
All eyebrows and elbows and knees, knocking the guys off their feet
You say you’ll never belong, let the stars shine and prove you wrong
    Sadness will string you along
Your smile could stop the hands of time

Darkness broke like a wave and left all your feelings afloat
You drowned in the sounds as they played, carried away on the notes
Now the music is making you yawn,
Just there on the air to hang your feelings upon
But the world’s singing your song
Come on, let’s stop the hands of time

The heavens above encircle you, straining to catch a glimpse
Of what happens when love slips out of view
    Instead of just crashing in

Feeling so out of place on this planet that’s whirling through space
Wipe that frown from your face
Your smile has stopped the hands of time

  • Easter Rock! This song is the gospel simple! I have not heard it since the 8o’s. I sing it in the shower very loudly every year. No one knows it anymore. He’s alive, He’s alive and I’m forgiven, heaven’s gates are opened wide, He’s alive…Don Francisco rocks it out!
    Hail Hail Lion of Judah!

"I love the relationship that anyone has with music: because there's something in us that is beyond the reach of words, something that eludes and defies our best attempts to spit it out. It's the best part of us, probably, the richest and strangest part..."
—Nick Hornby, Songbook
"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel."
—Hunter S. Thompson

Mp3s are for sampling purposes, kinda like when they give you the cheese cube at Costco, knowing that you'll often go home with having bought the whole 7 lb. spiced Brie log. They are left up for a limited time. If you LIKE the music, go and support these artists, buy their schwag, go to their concerts, purchase their CDs/records and tell all your friends. Rock on.
