Hey Heather,
I'm Ivan from Los Angeles and I have no idea how I stumbled upon your blog. I read it whenever I have time and I love your music tips. There are some questionable choices once in a while but hey, who doesn't have questionable choices on their shelves? You introduced me to Josh Rouse, thanks. I wonder if you're still keeping up on here. I will keep reading archives none the less (or does that go all in one word?). Keep on keeping on. I'm not on google but I'm at :
alt16four@yahoo.com

It's a great list, and thanks for all the good work. I actually think that the Sonic Youth record Rather Ripped is the most underrated record of the year. I think it's absolutely fantastic and the best thing I've listened to this year (haven't heard the whole M. Ward one yet).

No offense at all - but I wonder if a hot, up and coming indie band had put out Rather Ripped, it would be in more people's top 5 rather than just the top 20.

Nice list Heather ! and thanks for making it even harder to make my final choices for best albums of '06. You've definitely got me re-thinking a few.

Great looking list. I would have loved to see Till the Sun Turns Black and/or 9 on there, but it's okay.

Additionally, I haven't noticed much about The Black Keys on your site, and having just seen them live and still recovering from the sheer 'greatness' of the performance, I am doing my best to tell everyone I know how amazing they are. Their new cd Magic Potion is great, but it's nothing compared to them live.

Hi Heather. Just found your blog via elbo.ws. I was searching for the Johnny Cash song you blogged about here and found this great list of 2006! Good stuff. I'd like to invite you and your readers to check out my podcast - it's called Mass Hysteria It's basically me and my wife chatting about life and playing some good tunes. We played at least 3 of your top 20 this past year. We only podcast about once a month - so it's not too much of a commitment. :-)

As could be expected, a fine list . . . and a really good call on Open Season.

No 1 with a bullet as the cheesy DJ's used to say over here.I saw M Ward at the KOKO in Camden Town and thought you and your readers might like this snippet of overheard conversation at the front of the crowd.I was standing next to four eager young girls(by accident rather than design!) who clearly loved the record. As their man came on stage, I heard one say to the other,'Is he short?Oh no he's short!' Which made me laugh and reflect on how little things change over time.
He does 'Magic Trick' as a brilliant closer suggesting his own imminent disappearance to the audience.Top choice,Heather!
