A bright & fiery yellow, and blue, blue skies

I absolutely love the colors of Colorado this time of year. There are very few other color combinations that I can recall seeing that are this striking and amazingly beautiful, although the brights of the restored Sistine Chapel come to mind. Here are a few shots from my very own local Sistine Chapel, if you will. It’s hard to capture on film, but it’s like these aspen trees are on fire, most brilliant right before they strip bare for the winter — just to make you appreciate them a bit if you’ve been taking their green selves for granted all summer:

And the soundtrack that was in my head all morning:

Golden” – My Morning Jacket

  • dear Heather;
I ‘discovered’ MMJ with a post (by u, i’m guessing) when they did a 6 minute duet with Eddie V. I love them.
    Gorgeous pictures.
BTW…I just finished reading “Dream Brother” by D (no relation) Browne.
Did you know that Courtney wrote “Boys on the Radio” for Jeff? I know this song inside/out and I can’t find the correlation. Any inside scoop? If you don’t have this song I can Email it to you.
    Take Care,
    Michael

  • Awesome photos. I’m officially jealous. Have you heard the new MMJ live CD? Outstanding!

  • Fall always reminds me that I take for granted the fact that I live in Colorado and teaches me to truly appreciate it. It’s a lesson I look forward to learning each year.

Thanks for posting those beautiful pictures, Heather and I’m glad I have the opportunity to see things like that in person.

  • My 8-year-old son has been studying ecosystems, and the last unit was about deciduous forests… I’ll show him your pics as beautiful examples of that.

Here in North Idaho we’re mostly in a boreal forest, so we don’t get the changing colors except in small pockets here and there.

  • beautiful views you have! and i especially like forests of birches so it must be wonderful there now during fall.
i really have to check out my morning jacket. they opened for pearl jam here in milan (the PJ tour dates were their first concerts in italy) and i enjoyed their performance! they had a good sound, played very well and from the energy they had you could guess they felt what they were playing and singing… deserving a long applause by the whole public in the venue.
i have to get their record!

"I love the relationship that anyone has with music: because there's something in us that is beyond the reach of words, something that eludes and defies our best attempts to spit it out. It's the best part of us, probably, the richest and strangest part..."
—Nick Hornby, Songbook
"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel."
—Hunter S. Thompson

Mp3s are for sampling purposes, kinda like when they give you the cheese cube at Costco, knowing that you'll often go home with having bought the whole 7 lb. spiced Brie log. They are left up for a limited time. If you LIKE the music, go and support these artists, buy their schwag, go to their concerts, purchase their CDs/records and tell all your friends. Rock on.
