Bacchanalia of unreleased Ray LaMontagne & new album news

Phonetic guide: Ray La-Montaine (that’s how you say it, Nathaniel). You could also substitute the words “freaking awesome” or “I can’t believe how good he is” in a pinch. Same effect.

Billboard reports:
“Ray LaMontagne is in the midst of finishing his next RCA studio album with hopes to release it in early August. The artist has been recording with producer Ethan Johns at Allaire Studios in Shokan, N.Y. The pair previously worked together on LaMontagne’s 2004 debut, Trouble, which has sold 239,000 copies in the United States.

According to a spokesperson, the as-yet-untitled effort will be preceded by a short North American tour in July, a month after he finishes a stint supporting David Gray in the United Kingdom. As previously reported, LaMontagne released the Live from Bonnaroo 2005 EP last December, which included the previously unreleased song Empty.”

Because of the goodwill in my heart towards anyone who would also call Ray LaMontagne friend, I am opening my vaults. Here is a slew of unreleased tracks to sate you until the new album is released:

CONCERT ALERT:
If you’re in Colorado, consider heading on down to the Springs tonight (Friday night) for the Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers show at the Black Sheep. Absolutely one of my favorite live acts, period – if you come, you will not be disappointed. We’ll all kick back some Mexican Moonshine together. And then tune in this weekend for the results of my first ever real interview for the Fuel blog – I will be talking with Roger Clyne about the future of rock ‘n’ roll and sharing the gems of wisdom with you. Wish me luck, I’m goin’ in!

  • I love Ray LaMontagne. After hearing how he got into the music biz on the radio, I immediately purchased tickets to see him at the Paramount in Seattle. It was the most amazing show ever. Ray was so funny, all shy and barely able to talk into the mic, but when he started to sing, he was transformed. Brilliant!

  • not only did you allow me to download 19 of the finest songs by one of the finest artists, ray lamontagne, you concluded it with a quote by nick hornby. bestill my heart. thank you for making my 4th of july THAT much better; i appreciate you so very much. i agree with nick that music can somehow without fail defy any and all attempts we may so valiantly give to providing words for our feelings. ray manages to do that with all of his songs which is why he pulled me in with his lyrics and his music. thank you.

  • I’ve got the same opinion about Roger Clyne being one of the best live performers I’ve ever witnessed (over and over again).

  • I didn’t remove any of the Ray links (and have no immediate plans to). EZArchive was down this morning, but rumor has it that it is up and working again now. So keep trying!

  • You’re the best thing ever invented! Thanks so much! Does anyone know where I can find a recording of the “Train Song”?

  • Hey thanks for all the song. Ive been looking for more of his stuff for a long time. Over here in the uk he is only just getting noticed.
You should check out a singer called Damien Rice (damienrice.com) who i think is just as good if not better. Songs like “The Blowers Daughter” and “Delicate” are truely moving.

    Thanks again

  • Hi Heather! I discovered Ray a couple of months ago and finally saw him live at the Orpheum in Los Angeles 11/9. I don’t know if I can explain this properly, but I want live like his voice. Full of anguish and pain, but also intense love and beauty. I can’t believe it has taken me this long to find someone I can say is my favorite singer of all time, but he would be the one. Sorry for rambling, you the first person I told this to. Anyway, I was looking for the lyrics to “You Should Belong To Me.” and you blog came up. I really wish I was here back in April when you put up the RL downloads. Do you think you would ever upload them again? I hope so. Until, I’m killing my iPod. I just bought his newest CD, but I would love to relive the feeling I got when I finally seen him live. That man took my breath away. Peace.

  • WOW- Pearl Jam Quote, Ray LaMontagne songs. You have great taste in music. Two of my most absolute favorite artists-
Saw Ray LaMontagne at the Wiltern in LA in ’05 and just bought tickets to see him in Nashville 10/19. Still haven’t seen Pearl Jam. I should have gone to Bonaroo- but I didn’t want to see all those kids my daughters age, stoned and making mistakes (I missed out on a good thing and a bad thing- guess I’m even)

    Anonymous — August 4, 2008 @ 9:02 am

  • Thanks so much for re-upping these. Ray is so brilliant, and I can’t wait to see him at the Wiltern in LA on 11/2. Have been dying to hear “Acre Of Land”/”Green” and “One Lonesome Saddle”, the self-released albums. Has anyone got those?

"I love the relationship that anyone has with music: because there's something in us that is beyond the reach of words, something that eludes and defies our best attempts to spit it out. It's the best part of us, probably, the richest and strangest part..."
—Nick Hornby, Songbook
"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel."
—Hunter S. Thompson

Mp3s are for sampling purposes, kinda like when they give you the cheese cube at Costco, knowing that you'll often go home with having bought the whole 7 lb. spiced Brie log. They are left up for a limited time. If you LIKE the music, go and support these artists, buy their schwag, go to their concerts, purchase their CDs/records and tell all your friends. Rock on.
